A Splash of Teamwork!
The Splash Pad is as popular as ever this summer with lots of children (and adults!) enjoying the water daily. However, you may have noticed that it is closing at around 6-6:30pm. The Splash Pad runs on a sensor that is triggered by push buttons in the pad itself, but the buttons have broken so the sensor system cannot function. Staff ordered parts on the day of the breakdown, but sadly they haven’t arrived yet and we do not have an ETA at this time.
However our great team of Park, Public Works and Community Development staff have been working hard to keep the pad open daily so everyone can still enjoy this amazing spot, staff have even come in after hours and on days off to make this happen when needed. How does it work right now? Staff are going in to test the water (we must do this daily 30m before we can open) and then switch the pad to manual mode, this means it will run continuously until it is then switched off.
The benefit of this is that the splash pad is open! However, the disadvantage is that this uses more water and chemicals for a continuous flow and puts more pressure on the pumps and parts increasing maintenance needs. To protect the infrastructure we need to make sure the pad is turned off at the end of the day before staff leave, which is at 6:30pm.
We do understand that for some this is disappointing, we appreciate your understanding and patience. Our priority is ensuring safety, enjoyment and the maintaining the infrastructure.
Until the parts come in please continue to enjoy this great community asset until just after 6pm daily. If you need an extra cool down, don’t forget we have ice cream, slushies and cold drinks (and hot food too!) at our concessions and our great team of staff will be happy to see and serve you!
