Environmental Supervisor

Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Public Works, the Environmental Supervisor as the designated Operator-in-Charge (OIC), is responsible for overseeing the operations of the municipal drinking water distribution system, wastewater collection and transmission system/lagoon operations, storm water system; and environmental services programs such as: solid waste/garbage collection/diversion programs, environmental monitoring, municipally operated landfill, and aquatic weed harvesting. Responsibilities include development and implementation of efficient operational strategies, procurement, long-term planning, and communications with and preparation of reports for regulatory authorities, members of the public, and Council, as well as supervision and scheduling of designated environmental staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in the environmental services, engineering, or other related fields would be an asset.
  • Licensed under the Provincial regulations for the licensing of Water/Wastewater Treatment Facility Operators including: Ontario Ministry of Environment Certification/Licensing, Class II Water Distribution, Class II Collection, Health and Safety Certification, First Aid Certification, Confined space entry and rescue, DWQMS Certification
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player and coach with an ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees and the general public and to provide information to the public in order to ensure polite, tactful relations
  • Proficient computer skills in all relevant technologies within a Public Works Department, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Experience with database management software packages and GIS would be an asset
  • Supervisory experience in a municipal or government organization would be considered an asset, specifically relating to water distribution and wastewater collection, landfills, and knowledge of water/wastewater treatment.
  • Valid Ontario “G” class drivers licence.

Road Supervisor

Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Public Works, the Road Supervisor is responsible to organizing, implementing, and supervising work activities according to established service levels, procedures, and priorities. Supervises Public Works staff and contractors. Coordinates the use of equipment and contractual work to ensure that all work is carried out in an effective and efficient manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess and maintain minimum a valid Class “D” Province of Ontario Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player and coach with an ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees and the general public and to provide information to the public in order to ensure polite, tactful relations
  • Possesses at least a CRS-I (Certified Road Supervisor Intermediate) designation, preferred
  • Post Secondary education in the form of a community college diploma (2 or 3 years) focused on Engineering (e.g. C.E.T.), design, effective management in a Public Works environment or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
  • Proficient computer skills in all relevant technologies within a Public Works Department, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Supervisory experience would be considered an asset, specifically relating to road construction and maintenance, drainage, and scheduling of daily activities
