Centre Hastings Council and Army Cadets Branch #385 Commemorate Vimy Ridge Anniversary

On April 7th, the Royal Canadian Army Cadets from Branch #385 held a solemn ceremony commemorating the Battle of Vimy Ridge. The event took place at 7 p.m. at the municipal office of the Municipality of Centre Hastings, with Council members and cadets in attendance to honour the historic battle.
As part of the commemoration, the Royal Canadian Army Cadets Branch #385 paraded from the Madoc Armoury, now known as the Kiwanis building. This location once served as a training ground for numerous service members and a gathering place for World War I veterans from Madoc.
Mayor Deline said in a small commemorative speech “Ladies and gentlemen, Today, we stand together to remember one of the most defining moments in our history—the Battle of Vimy Ridge. On April 9, 1917, thousands of brave Canadian soldiers advanced across the fields of France, facing immense hardship and sacrifice. They fought not just for victory, but for the values of freedom, duty, and courage that define our nation.”
Mayor Deline also mentioned “Let us honour their memory, not just in words, but in our actions—by upholding the ideals they fought for, by cherishing our peace, and by ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten. We Will Remember!.”
Young members of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets Madoc Branch #385 had the opportunity to learn about military heritage by recognizing Canada's involvement in the Battle of Vimy Ridge. April 9th, 2024, will be remembered as the 15th anniversary of the Army Cadets' commemoration of Vimy Ridge, in partnership with the Municipality of Centre Hastings.
Members of Centre Hastings Council expressed their appreciation to the young cadets from Madoc Branch #385 for their participation in this meaningful evening ceremony.
