Halloween Safety Tips

Costume Safety

Opt for light-colored, flame-resistant costumes that feature reflective strips to ensure kids are visible during nighttime activities.

Make sure the costumes are short enough to minimize the risk of tripping.

Enhance visibility by adding reflective tape to bikes, skateboards, and brooms.

Avoid costumes that include masks or anything that obstructs vision; face paint is a safer alternative.

Keep away from open flames and candles, as costumes can easily catch fire.

Trick-or-Treating Tips

Children should stick to sidewalks, walking instead of running, and definitely avoid sneaking around in the street!

Plan a trick-or-treat route in advance, ensuring that kids stay on one side of the street before crossing.

Only cross at intersections or crosswalks, and remind kids to look both ways for vehicles and the occasional low-flying broomstick.

Carrying a flashlight is a great way to see and be seen by others.

Travel in Groups

Make sure trick-or-treaters go in groups of at least four or five, with young children always accompanied by an adult.

Only visit homes with their porch lights on, indicating they welcome trick-or-treaters.

Set clear boundaries for where kids can go and ensure they return home on time.

Candy Safety

Accept treats only at the door—never enter the homes or cars of strangers.

Remind children to wait until an adult inspects the candy at home before eating it. Avoid consuming any treats with opened packaging.

Be cautious of small, hard candies that could pose a choking risk for younger children.
