Improving Pedestrian Safety In The Village Of Madoc: New Community Safety Zone (CSZ) Signage Installed
The Municipality of Centre Hastings has heard your concerns and agrees that safer speeds are needed in our downtown area.
We have been working closely with the Ministry of Transportation, the Ontario Provincial Police, community partners, and residents to enhance safety across our community.
To support these efforts, the Municipality has recently installed new Community Safety Zone (CSZ) signage within the Village of Madoc to help make our streets safer for everyone.
New locations include:
• Durham Street South (just south of Danfords Construction)
• Russell Street (north of the LCBO)

A reminder for all drivers:
Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, Community Safety Zones are designated areas where safety is a top priority and penalties for traffic violations are increased. These zones are actively enforced by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
What this means:
• Fines are doubled for offences such as speeding within these zones
• The posted speed limit remains unchanged at 50 km/h—drivers must continue to follow all traffic laws
• Community Safety Zones are clearly identified with “Begins” and “Ends” signage
These measures are intended to increase awareness and help protect pedestrians, residents, and all road users.
