Media Release: $150,000 OTF Grant Gives Madoc & District Recreation Centre a New Roof
MADOC, ON – On Saturday, local MPP Ric Bresee met with the teams at the Township of Madoc and Municipality of Centre Hastings to hear more about the $150,000 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to make key repairs to the local recreation centre.
"Small municipal arenas are the beating heart of Rural Ontario, they bring communities together for sports, recreation, and social events like nothing else can," said Ric Bresee, MPP for Hastings-Lennox and Addington. "I am thrilled to see the Ontario government show this support for Madoc Township, and help our community thrive!"
The grant was awarded to the Township of Madoc in November 2022 to rehabilitate the roof of the Madoc & District Recreation Centre, which it jointly operates with the Municipality of Central Hastings. The project will extend the life of the Arena by an estimated 15 years, and will allow it to continue to provide ice skating and hall rentals to the communities of both Madoc and Central Hastings for years to come.
The grant funds were used to install a sealing membrane over the existing roof at the Arena to increase the useful life of the facility for users to meet public demand for recreational opportunities in our rural community.
“The impact of this Ontario grant is greatly appreciated”, said Amy Beaton, Councillor for the Township of Madoc, “This grant has allowed needed improvements to be made at this facility. The Madoc & District Recreation Centre is one of the many services that the Township of Madoc and Municipality of Centre Hastings share to provide services to the greater community.”
Tom Deline, Mayor for the Municipality of Centre Hastings added, “This grant allows both municipalities to continue to provide the Arena for years to come. This project is the outcome of both municipalities coming together to support the needs of the greater community. We are thankful for our neighbours and the Ontario government for their support.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested more than $110M into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
