Media Release : 2024 Madoc’s Enchanted Christmas

The Municipality of Centre Hastings has been notified that the Madoc Santa Clause Parade element of the 2024 Madoc’s Enchanted Christmas has been cancelled. This annual event is organized by the Madoc and District Chamber of Commerce, while like everyone we are disappointed to hear this outcome, the Municipality is supportive of all organizations that work to provide a service to our community, and we are looking forward to all the alternative activities that Madoc’s Enchanted Christmas will bring to the community.

The original stationary parade route was designed to feature St. Lawrence Street East. This year, due to the Russel St. Bridge Rehabilitation Project this route is a primary detour established by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). Unfortunately, this road could not be closed, as it would remove the detour option, and this is not permitted by the MTO. The Municipality of Centre Hastings did present an alternative route for road closures, within the downtown, to the Madoc and District Chamber of Commerce as the organizers to enable the parade to continue. The organizers decided not to utilize this route as they did not feel it would accommodate all who registered to participate. As a result, they made the difficult decision to remove the parade from the order of events. We understand this was a challenging decision, and not one that was taken lightly.

The municipality has worked to accommodate all requests from the organizers by offering venues, financial support and staff input for Madoc’s Enchanted Christmas, we wish them a very successful event and look forward to participating and attending.
