Proudly Displayed, Deeply Remembered: Veteran Banners in Centre Hastings

During the month of November, we invite everyone to take a moment to look around our hamlets and villages at the banners honoring the past, present, and community members who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Each banner tells a story of courage, dedication, and selflessness, reminding us of the profound contributions of those who served.

The Municipality of Centre Hastings is proud to support this initiative in collaboration with the Madoc Legion Branch 363, Madoc BIT, Fred & Susan Bendel, and Brock Kerby. What began in 2021 as a small tribute has grown exponentially, and today, 75 banners proudly line our streets—each one representing a member of our community who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy.

Inspired by similar initiatives in other communities, this program has also expanded to our neighbours in the Municipality of Tweed, demonstrating the power of local efforts to honour veterans and active service members.

This year, at the Honour Our Veteran Banner Night in September, we celebrated the addition of seven new banners, further enriching the streets of Centre Hastings with reminders of our shared history and community pride. Walking or driving along our streets, you can read the names and remember the individuals who have shaped our community through their service and sacrifice.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to this initiative—whether through organizing, funding, or supporting the program. Your dedication ensures that the stories and sacrifices of veterans, past service members, and current members of the Canadian Armed Forces continue to be remembered and respected.

Let us all take the time this November to reflect, remember, and show our appreciation.

We Will Remember in Centre Hastings!
