The Finance Department has the responsibility for collection of property taxes, utility (water and sewer) billings and other revenues, coordination of the annual operating and capital budgets, issuance of debentures for capital projects, provision of accounts receivable and accounts payable services, as well as customer service coordination. The Finance Department is also responsible for researching grant and funding opportunities for the Municipality and has responsibility for the preparation of financial statements and reports, maintenance of accounting records, purchase of goods and services, and the provision of payroll and auditing services.


Property taxes are the main source of revenue to provide services delivered by the Municipality of Centre Hastings.  In addition to collecting taxes for its own purposes, the municipality is also responsible for levying and collecting taxes on behalf of the County of Hastings as well as the Province of Ontario.


Moving? No problem. Prevent a misdirected tax bill notice by letting us know as soon as possible. Property owners must ensure their property and contact information is up-to-date. A Change of Mailing Address form is required. You can find the form here.


The Municipality of Centre Hastings has several payment options available to residents.

  1. PRE-AUTHORIZED PAYMENTS: There are two (2) Pre-Authorized Payment Plans for taxes for your convenience. Complete and submit the Taxes Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (PAP) Application/Agreement to have your property taxes automatically debited from your bank account.  Information about each Plan is outlined below:
    • Due Date Plan:
      • Tax instalment amounts are deducted on specified tax due dates, as listed on your tax bill(s).  Enrolment may begin at any time however, taxes must be paid up-to-date prior to the first deduction.
        This service is available for municipal utility (water and sewer) users as well! Please complete and submit the Utilities Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (PAP) Application Agreement.
    • Monthly Plan:
      • Twelve (12) monthly deductions on the 30th of each month (February 28th).

    Available through most major Financial Institutions. Payments should be made at least 3 to 4 business days in advance of the property tax due date in order to ensure the payments reach our office by the due date. 
    • For property tax payments, search for the payee name containing “Centre Hastings” and then select “property taxes”. Your account number is your property tax roll number and must begin with 1230 and end with 0000.  The account number must be a total of 19 digits in length. 
    • For utility (municipal water and sewer) payments, search for the payee name containing “Centre Hastings” and then select “utility”. Your account number is your account number located on your bill and must begin with the number zero. The account number must a total of 13 digits in length.

  3. FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS: Tax payments can be made directly at most financial institutions and banking machines. Payments should be made at least 3 to 4 business days in advance of the due date in order to ensure the payments reach our office by the due date. 

  4. ONLINE (Credit Card or Debit Card)*: – Credit card payments will only be accepted online for property taxes, and utility bills.  Credit card payments will not be accepted over the phone or at the front desk.  PaySimply* can provide this convenient online service for you. For Property Tax payments, please visit PaySimply Taxes to p​ay online only. For Utility (Water/Sewer) payments, please visit PaySimply Utilities to p​ay online only.  *PaySimply convenience fees will be applied.
    Payments will be processed in 2 – 5 business days. Payments should be made at least several business days in advance of the property tax or utility due date in order to ensure the payments reach our office by the due date.

  5. MAIL: Send cheques and your payment stub to:

    • Office hours are Monday through Thursday 8:30am – 4:00pm, and Friday 8:30am – 1:30pm.
    • Cash, cheque, debit (Interac) available. No credit cards accepted.
    • A lock box is available at the main door for your convenience (cheques only).


If you have not received your tax bill by the 15th of February (Interim Tax Notice) or the 15th of June (Final Tax Notice), please contact our office.

Property owners typically receive two tax bills from the Municipality each year.

Interim tax bills represent fifty percent (50%) of the previous year’s total taxes and are due on the last day of the month in February and April.

Final tax bills represent the balance of the annual year’s taxes including any adjustments for new tax rates and are due on the last day of July and September. 

If the last day of the month falls on a weekend, the due date will be the last business day, prior to the last day of the month.
