Hazardous Waste

The Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste (HHEW) program is operated by GFL Environmental Services and is available to residents of Belleville, Prince Edward County, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon, Madoc Township, Centre Hastings, Tweed, Tyendinaga Township, and Marmora and Lake Township.

Residents of the Municipality of Centre Hastings can continue to use the Household Hazardous Waste depot located at 75 Wallbridge Crescent in Belleville, which was formerly operated by Quinte Waste Solutions (QWS). Mobile household hazardous waste collection events throughout participating member municipalities during this time.

Beginning in 2026, the permanent depot at 75 Wallbridge Crescent will remain open at the same location. There will be no changes to the services provided at the depot. Mobile household hazardous waste events will be managed by the City of Belleville and the City of Quinte West.

Centre Hastings residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste at the 2026 Household Hazardous Mobile Waste Event.

The event takes place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Madoc Landfill & Recycling Waste Depot.

This is your chance to get rid of items such as paints, solvents, chemicals, pesticides, batteries, and other hazardous household materials in a safe and environmentally responsible way.

The program is operated by GFL Environmental Services and is free for Centre Hastings residents.

Centre Hastings residents have year round access to the Belleville Depot at 75 Wallbridge Loyalist Cresent, K80 1Z5

GFL receives the following items at our household hazardous waste sites and events:

  • Solvents or turpentines 
  • Furniture and paint strippers 
  • Oil filters 
  • Lubricating oil and containers 
  • Automotive lead acid batteries 
  • Household single-use dry cell and rechargeable batteries 
  • Anti-freeze and containers 
  • BBQ lighter fluids 
  • Propane tanks and pressurized containers 
  • Fertilizers 
  • Pesticides 
  • Insecticides and herbicides 
  • Disinfectants 
  • Rat and mouse poisons 
  • Pool chemicals 
  • Household cleaners 
  • Used sharps 
  • Medicines and prescriptions 
  • Light tubes and bulbs 
  • Gasoline and waste oil 

GFL’s household hazardous waste events are open only to residential waste. We do not accept commercial, institutional or industrial-generated waste
